While the new releases of this week — BADASS RAVI KUMAR and LOVEYAPA — disappointed, a repeat-run film, SANAM TERI KASAM, opened so outstandingly yesterday (7th February) that the trade is still rubbing its eyes in disbelief. The first day closed at almost Rs. 5.50 crore! The film, which is running in more than 1,200 cinemas, is expected to net Rs. 18-20 crore in the first weekend! Cinemas lost no time in increasing the shows of STK while reducing the shows of the two new films!
Deva did not do well in the first week. It collected Rs. 5.50 crore on the first day. Collections on Saturday and Sunday were Rs. 6.25 crore and Rs. 7.25 crore respectively so that the first weekend closed at Rs. 19 crore. Collections dipped after the weekend: Monday – Rs. 2.35 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 2.20 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 1.90 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.55 crore. In this way, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 8 crore. Hence the total for the first week was Rs. 27 crore.
Sky Force dropped around 60% in its second week. It netted Rs. 12 crore in the second weekend, and another Rs. 4.50 crore during the weekdays. Therefore, the total for 2nd week was Rs. 16.50 crore. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 57 crore.
Ramayana: The Legend Of Prince Rama (animation; Hindi, English and South Indian language versions) dropped markedly in the second week. As in the first week, the Hindi version was the strongest. It netted around Rs. 0.80 crore in 2nd week. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 3.80 crore.
Emergency is in its last lap. It collected only Rs. 0.90 crore in the third week. Grand total for 3 weeks: Rs. 17.90 crore.
Mufasa: The Lion King (animation; dubbed and the original English versions) collected around Rs. 1.30 crore in 7th week. Grand total for 7 weeks: Rs. 131.30 crore.
Mukkam Post Devach Ghar (Marathi) could not do much in its first week all over Maharashtra.
ILU ILU 1998 (Marathi) fared poorly in 1st week in Maharashtra.
Journey (Marathi) proved to be a debacle in the first week in the whole of Maharashtra.
Fussclass Dabhade! (Marathi) dropped 50% in 2nd week in Maharashtra, but still managed to do well.
