‘SHAITAAN’ OPENS WELL

SHAITAAN opened well yesterday (February 8), thanks to the Mahashivratri holiday. The first day closed at Rs. 14.50 crore.

Laapataa Ladies started slow but remained steady on the weekdays at mediocre collections. An increase in collections over the previous three days was noticed on the last day (Thursday) of the first week. The film opened with a net collection of Rs. 0.76 crore on Friday. Collections almost doubled to Rs. 1.40 crore on Saturday. The increase on Sunday was not big so that the day closed at Rs. 1.75 crore. In this way, the first weekend closed at Rs. 3.91 crore. Collections for the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 0.53 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.56 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.54 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.65 crore. With the total for the weekdays being Rs. 2.28 crore, the first week closed at Rs. 6.19 crore.

Operation Valentine bombed miserably in the first week.

Kaagaz 2, as expected, was a non-starter. It fared poorly in 1st week.

Dange, as predicted, performed badly in the first week.

Kusum Ka Biyaah met with a disastrous fate in the first week.

Fairy Folk went largely unnoticed in 1st week.

Dune: Part Two (dubbed and the original English versions) did well in the first week. As predicted, the Hindi dubbed version fared poorly but the English version shone. Collections of the Hindi dubbed version were only 8-9% of those of the original English version. The first day (Thursday when only the IMAX version opened) closed at Rs. 0.68 crore. The total collection of all the versions combined on Friday was Rs. 2.42 crore while on Saturday, it was Rs. 3.48 crore. The film collected Rs. 3.62 crore on Sunday. Therefore, the first 4-day weekend closed at Rs. 10.20 crore. Collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 1.16 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 1.07 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 1.03 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.07 crore. Hence the total for the weekdays was Rs. 4.33 crore. In this way, the first 8-day week closed at Rs. 14.53 crore.

Crakk crashed in 2nd week. It managed to collect only Rs. 0.85 crore in the second week. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 13.55 crore.

Article 370 was quite steady in 2nd week. The second weekend started with a take of Rs. 3 crore. Collections on Saturday jumped to Rs. 5.50 crore, and further to Rs. 6.50 crore on Sunday. After a second weekend total of Rs. 15 crore, collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 2.25 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 2 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 1.95 crore, Thursday – Rs. 2.40 crore. With the total for the weekdays being Rs. 8.60 crore, the second week closed at Rs. 23.60 crore. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 57.10 crore.

Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya netted Rs. 4 crore in the fourth weekend, and another Rs. 1.40 crore during the weekdays. Therefore, the fourth week closed at Rs. 5.40 crore. Grand total for 4 weeks: Rs. 78.35 crore.

Fighter added only Rs. 1 crore to its kitty in 6th week. Grand total for 6 weeks: Rs. 192.40 crore.

Hee Anokhi Gaath… (Marathi) did fair business in 1st week all over Maharashtra.

Lagna Kallol (Marathi) could not do well in the first week in Maharashtra.

Man Yedyagat Zala (Marathi) faced rejection in the first week all over Maharashtra.
