The simultaneous release of SINGHAM AGAIN and BHOOL BHULAIYAA 3 adversely affected the box-office collections of both the films as neither could do great business in the first (Diwali) week. In the final tally, the loss to the trade will be to the extent of around Rs. 80-90 crore, maybe even more. The worst part is that neither of the two films realised its full potential in the holiday-laden festival week.
Singham Again started its first week with a take of Rs. 39.50 crore on Friday (1st November). Collections on Saturday (New Year’s Day holiday) dropped rather than picking up, which was the first sign that the film was not going to do business commensurate with its canvas. The second day closed at Rs. 38.75 crore. Quite shockingly, collections on Sunday — Rs. 31.25 crore — were the lowest of the weekend. Although the film joined the Rs. 100-crore club in the first weekend which closed at an impressive Rs. 109.50 crore, the total was not what the first day’s net collections had made the trade presume. Collections during the weekdays were definitely not up to the mark. It netted Rs. 15.75 crore on Monday, Rs. 14 crore on Tuesday, Rs. 11.50 crore on Wednesday, and Rs. 8 crore on Thursday. In this way, the film netted Rs. 49.25 crore during the weekdays. Therefore, the total for the first week was Rs. 158.75 crore.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 began its first weekend with a take of Rs. 33.50 crore on Friday. Collections on Saturday (New Year Day’s holiday) dropped to Rs. 31 crore. The Sunday total was Rs. 28 crore. Again, like in the case of Singham Again, the drop in collections on Saturday and Sunday underlined that the film was more reaping the advantage of the festival period than earning for its merits. After a first weekend total of Rs. 92.50 crore, collections for the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 13.25 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 12 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 10.75 crore, Thursday – Rs. 8 crore. Hence the total for the weekdays was Rs. 44 crore. In this way, the total for the first week was Rs. 136.50 crore.
Amaran (dubbed) fared miserably in the first week.
Venom: The Last Dance (dubbed and the original English versions) added another Rs. 6.50 crore to its kitty in the second week. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 38.10 crore.
