‘MAHAVATAR NARSIMHA’ (ANIMATION) REVIEW | 25 July, 2025

Hombale Films and Kleem Productions’ Mahavatar Narsimha (animation; UA) is a mythological. A 3D animation film, it is the story of how demon Hiranyakashyapu seeks revenge on Vishnu and declares himself God. However, Hiranyakashyapu’s own son, Prahlad, remains a staunch devotee of Lord Vishnu. Agitated, Hiranyakashyapu orders that Prahlad be killed. But Vishnu ensures that Prahlad is saved every time. Finally, Vishnu manifests as Narsimha to defeat Hiranyakashyapu and restore balance.

Jayapurna Das, Rudra P. Ghosh and Ashwin Kumar’s story is borrowed from the pages of Hindu mythology. The trio’s screenplay is written in an interesting and engaging style. The shlokas, which often play in the background, and the devotional songs hold special appeal for the Hindu audience. At first, the birth of the two demons, then the declaration by Hiranyakashyapu that he is God, then the inclination of little Prahlad towards Lord Vishnu, then Hiranyakashyapu’s attempt to eliminate son Prahlad, and finally, the manifestation of Vishnu as Narsimha — they all are well portrayed to offer the audience a lot of excitement and thrill. The last portion, especially — showing Narsimha and Hiranyakashyapu battling it out — is so outstanding and thrilling that the viewers can’t help but applaud and cheer for Narsimha. The trio’s dialogues are simple. They ought to have been better.

The voice acting is lovely. Ashwin Kumar’s direction is very good. He has narrated the film in a manner that it would entertain people of all age groups. Of course, the limitation of an animation film would remain. Sam C.S.’s music is quite appealing. Saurabh Mittal’s lyrics are appropriate. Sam C.S.’s background music is fantastic. Ajay Verma and Ashwin Kumar’s editing is sharp.

On the whole, Mahavatar Narsimha is an entertaining fare and will definitely do well in cinemas on the strength of Hindu patronage.
