Jude Anthony Joseph’s Malayalam survival drama, 2018, is out of the Oscars race. The film was India’s official entry in the Best International Feature Film category at the 96th Academy Awards 2024 but it failed to make it to the shortlist of 15 films.
The shortlist was announced by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on December 22. The film is set against the backdrop of the devastating flood in Kerala in 2018, and it deals with the human spirit of survival and the helpful nature of human beings.
