As expected, the box-office collections of Yash Raj Films’ Mardaani 2 have shown an upward swing today which is the second day of the film. The mouth publicity for the Rani Mukerji starrer, which opened yesterday (13th December) has been very good. The opening day’s net all-India total collection was Rs. 3.80 crore. Point to be noted is that the film was not too widely released as it has only Rani Mukerji and the franchise brand as its selling points. The film does not boast of any hero as Rani is the film’s main protagonist. Yash Raj Film Distributors, therefore, released the film in only 1,600 screens in India.
The increase in collections is evident from the following data gathered thus far:
Collections on first day in PVR chain of multiplexes: Rs. 92 lakh.
Collections on 2nd day till 3.53 p.m. in PVR chain of multiplexes: Rs. 86 lakh.
Collections on first day in Inox chain of multiplexes: Rs. 65 lakh.
Collections on 2nd day till 3.53 p.m. in Inox chain of multiplexes: Rs. 59 lakh.
Collections on first day in Cinepolis chain of multiplexes: Rs. 35 lakh.
Collections on 2nd day till 3.53 p.m. in Cinepolis chain of multiplexes: Rs. 33 lakh.
Total collections on first day at PVR, Inox and Cinepolis chains: Rs. 1.92 crore.
Total collections on 2nd day till 3.53 p.m. at PVR, Inox and Cinepolis chains: Rs. 1.78 crore.
It is anybody’s guess that the film will yield far more revenues at the ticket counters today (14th December) than it did yesterday. Besides Rani, new actor Vishal Jethwa, who plays the antagonist in Mardaani 2, is coming in for a lot of praise. Vishal is a television actor, best known for portraying the character of Akbar in Bharat Ka Veer Putra – Maharana Pratap which aired on Sony TV. Mardaani 2, it may be pointed out, is writer-director Gopi Puthran’s debut film.
