The release of Jio Studios and Maddock Films’ Mimi on OTT platforms Jio Cinema and Netflix was advanced by four days because the pirated version was out earlier in the day today (26th July). The Kriti Sanon and Pankaj Tripathi starrer was supposed to premiere on the two platforms on 30th July but the two producers took the decision to release it today (26th) itself, hours after the pirates had played dirty.
A preview show of the film was scheduled at producer Dinesh Vijan’s office this evening for the cast and crew and it was at this show that the decision to advance the release was taken. The piracy had raised its ugly head a couple of hours before the private show at Vijan’s office. From the show itself, Pankaj Tripathi’s video, announcing the film’s release today instead of on 30th July, was uploaded on social media. The reason for releasing the film today, which Pankaj gave in the video was that it is Kriti’s birthday tomorrow (27th July) and hence the film was being offered to the public from today (26th) as a surprise gift to the birthday girl!
Of course, the real reason for advancing the release was to beat the pirates.
