The Patan high court in Nepal yesterday (June 22) lifted the ban on Hindi films including Adipurush, asking authorities not to halt the screening of any film passed by the country’s censor board. A dialogue of Adipurush, in which Sita is referred to as “India’s daughter”, had led to Kathmandu mayor Balendra Shah putting a blanket ban on all Hindi films from June 19.
Despite the ban being lifted by the court, Balendra Shah remained defiant, saying that he would not allow the screening of Adipurush as it pertained to Nepal’s sovereignty and independence. Shah said, he was ready to face punishment.
