PAMELA CHOPRA NO MORE | 20 April, 2023

Pamela Chopra, widow of celebrated filmmaker Yash Chopra, mother of Aditya and Uday Chopra, and mother-in-law of Rani Mukerji, passed away this morning (20th April) at a hospital in Bombay. She was in her eighties. She is being cremated at Pawan Hans crematorium at 11 a.m. today.

Pam (as she was known by people close to her) Chopra was a pillar of strength for Yash Chopra and later, for her sons. She was also a singer, having rendered a couple of songs for films made by her husband. She had also written the screenplay for Yash Chopra’s Dil To Pagal Hai.

She was recently seen in Netflix’s The Romantics web series which is about the Yash Raj empire started by Yash Chopra and being carried forward by Aditya. In the series, Pam spoke candidly and lovingly about her late husband and gave insights into his style of working and the kind of person he was in his personal and professional lives.

Pamela Chopra was a film buff. It was not rare for her to watch the latest films at private screenings organised at Yash Raj Studios for her and her close group of friends every Saturday. She was loved by one and all. She was a gracious hostess. Rajesh Sethi, who was closely associated with Yash Raj Films, said, “Pam bhabhi was a lovely person… very affectionate and warm. She was ever smiling, supportive of her family members and always concerned about the welfare of all the people whom she was associated with. We will all miss her.”
