A sessions court in Bombay on August 14 rejected the discharge plea of Rahul Raj Singh, accused of abetting the 2016 suicide of his 24-year-old partner, actress Pratyusha Banerjee. The detailed order will be made available later.
The Bombay high court had expedited hearing in the discharge plea this year as it was pending since 2018.
Rahul denied the allegations and said, Pratyusha and he were to marry in December 2016. He added that she was deeply disturbed and frustrated due to constant interference of her parents who loved to blow the money earned by her.
The Balika Vadhu (TV serial) actress hung herself to death in her flat at Goregaon (Bombay) on April 3, 2016. Her parents complained to the police that Rahul Raj Singh had murdered Pratyusha.
Singh was granted anticipatory bail by the Bombay high court, and a chargesheet against him was submitted in 2018. The parents alleged that no one had seen their daughter hung, but the police had filed a suicide case merely on the basis of Rahul’s statement.
