B.R. Chopra must be smiling from up there to see how his daughter-in-law and grandsons have made a hit out of the remake of his 1978 film, Pati Patni Aur Woh. The comedy film had then starred Sanjeev Kumar, Vidya Sinha and Ranjeeta Kaur. The remake, produced by Renu Ravi Chopra, Abhay Chopra and Kapil (Juno) Chopra, features Kartik Aaryan, Bhumi Pednekar and Ananya Pandey.
The film fared fabulously well in the first weekend and is continuing to collect impressively in the weekdays too. It started big when Friday closed at Rs. 9.10 crore, the highest ever for a Kartik Aaryan srtarrer. Before this, his Luka Chuppi had been his best opening film. After the fantastic start, collections jumped up by 40% on Saturday which closed at Rs. 12.33 crore. On Sunday, the film saw another jump when it netted Rs. 14.51 crore. In this way, the film’s first weekend closed at Rs. 35.94 crore, again the best first weekend for Aaryan.
After recording collections like the above, the film is holding on reasonably well in the weekdays too as it recorded good footfalls in cinemas across India on Monday. Given that there isn’t any star-studded extravaganza hitting the screens on 13th December, the second week of Pati Patni Aur Woh is also expected to be very good as the mouth publicity of the comedy is very good.
