A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed in the Supreme Court yesterday (December 7), seeking directions to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to submit its report in the investigation related to the death of Sushant Singh Rajput. The actor was found dead at his flat at Bandra in Bombay on June 14.
The PIL said that the apex court had transferred the case to the CBI on August 19 when the family of Sushant told it that it was not happy with the probe by the Bombay police which had investigated it till then. The plea added that even after almost four months, the CBI has not yet come out with its report. It added, “The CBI is not acting responsibly in the present case, and there is a delay in the conclusion of the investigation of the case.” It accused the investigating agency of having “failed miserably” in its role and added that the unnecessary delay was bringing a bad name to the administration of justice not only in our country but across the globe.
The CBI had sought the help of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi on medico-legal aspects. The AIIMS had allegedly found no presence of organic poison or toxic chemicals in the deceased’s viscera sample and had concluded that the actor had died by hanging and there was no foul play in the death.
The PIL seeks direction to the CBI to complete its probe within two months and to submit a final report in the concerned court.
