Shree Ganesh Marketing And Films and Varsha Movies’ Pillu Bachelor (Marathi; UA) is about discrimination against the girl child.
The film is set in rural India. Akash (Parth Bhalerao) and Swati (Sayali Sanjeev) are siblings. While Akash gets all the love and attention because he is a male child, Swati is often ignored by her own family simply because she is a female. It is presumed that since the male child would carry the family flag ahead, he needs to be pampered. Seeing the blatant discrimination, Akash feels awkward and leaves his home. What happens thereafter? Does the mindset of Akash and Swati’s family change?
Arvind Jagtap has written a story which belongs to an era gone by. Even traditional households don’t discriminate against the girl child as blatantly as shown in the drama. Hence the identification with the story will not be much. Had Jagtap written an engaging screenplay, the drama would’ve been accepted in spite of being dated, but even his screenplay is rather dull. His dialogues are quite nice.
Parth Bhalerao (as Akash alias Pillu) does a fine job. Sayali Sanjeev is good as Swati. Akshaya M. Deodhar makes a nice mark. Shivali Parab has her moments. Akshay Tanksale is fair. Shashank Shende shines. Mohan Agashe leaves a good impression. Savita Malpekar makes her presence felt. Bharat Ganeshpure is adequate. Nandkishor Choughule lends fair support. Swapnil Rajshekhar is okay. Yogesh Shirsat, Rohit Chavan, Kalpana Jagtap, Snehal Shidam, Ruchita Jadhav, Amarnath Kharade, Shubham Chaudhari, Somnath Patil and Mohan Raut provide routine support.
Tanaji M. Ghadge’s direction is weak. Chinar-Mahesh’s music is okay. Mangesh Kangane’s lyrics are quite nice. Diksha Nagpal and Suyog Khavate’s choreography is functional. Background music (Chinar-Mahesh, Preeti Nimkar and Mangesh Kangane) is functional. Surya Mishra does a routine job of the camerawork. Anant Kamath’s editing is loose.
On the whole, Pillu Bachelor will not be able to make a mark at the box-office because it lacks entertainment value.
Released on 15-12-’23 at Gem (daily 1 show) and other cinemas of Bombay thru Filmastra Studios. Publicity & opening: dull.
