The case of firing at Salman Khan’s house at Bandra in Bombay has been transferred to the assistant commissioner (crime branch D-1) of police in Bombay, paving the way for invoking the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). An officer of the rank of an assistant commissioner of police is the investigating officer in MCOCA cases.
ACP Mahesh Desai, who was heading the probe, is retiring next month and hence the case has now been transferred to ACP Nade. The Bombay police have reportedly got sanction from the commissioner of police for invoking the MCOCA in the case. On the next remand date on April 29, the police will put up a proposal to the 37th court, seeking permission to produce the four accused before the MCOCA court. They will then seek permission from the court concerned to get gangster Lawrence Bishnoi from Sabarmati Jail in Gujarat to Bombay in the coming week. Lawrence and his brother, Anmol Bishnoi, have claimed responsibility for the shooting incident.
Within 24 hours of the firing, the police arrested the two shooters. Later, two more men were arrested for allegedly supplying weapons on behalf of the Bishnois to the two shooters.
