Leading producer-financier-distributor-exhibitor of yesteryears, Pravin Thakker, passed away today (27th October) in Bombay. He was 81 and is survived by his wife, and a son and a daughter and their families. He will be cremated on Tuesday (29th October) at 10 a.m. The funeral procession will go from Pravinbhai’s residence (1002, Kamla Vihar building, E Wing, behind Kamla Vihar Sports Club, opposite Udyog Nagar, Mahavir Nagar, Kandivli West, Bombay) to the Dahanukarwadi crematorium at Kandivli West in Bombay. His prayer meeting will be held on 31st October from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Halai Lohana Mahajanwadi, S.V. Road, Kandivli West.
Pravinbhai produced films under the banner of Durga Pictures. Among the films produced by him were Naya Zaher, Yeh Majhdhaar, Marathi film Prem Mhanje Prem Mhanje Prem Asta and Gujarati film Jagat Jogani Maa Khodiyar. He used to finance the Hindi films produced by Mohan Segal, and the Gujarati films produced by Mahesh-Naresh. He had also distributed a number of films in Bombay circuit in the 1990s. At one time, he used to control around 70 cinemas.
