Yash Raj Films’ Prithviraj has landed in two controversies. The first relates to the Akhil Bharatiya Veer Gurjar Mahasabha which has claimed that the 12th century warrior king was a Gurjar and should be portrayed as such in the film, and not as a Rajput, else the Mahasabha would not permit its release. The Mahasabha’s Rajasthan state president, Manish Bhargad, said that his organisation had met the film’s producer last year and had handed over to him the historic evidence over the issue and requested him to present correct facts in his film. He added that the producer had assured the Mahasabha that nothing against the community would be shown in the film.
Meanwhile, the Rajput community’s Karni Sena has demanded that the film’s title be changed to include the word ‘Samrat’ before ‘Prithviraj’. The Sena has suggested the title ‘Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan’ instead of just Prithviraj. The organisation has said that it would not permit the film’s release in Rajasthan if the title was not altered.
Prithviraj, starring Akshay Kumar, and directed by Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi, is slated for release on 3rd June.
