Following the rape complaint filed by a Malayalam film actress against veteran actor Siddique, the Museum (Thiruvananthapuram) police have registered an FIR against him under IPC sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation). The actress alleged that the incident occurred in a hotel room in Thiruvananthapuram. Earlier, an FIR under IPC section 354 (assault or criminal force on woman with intent to outrage her modesty) was registered in Kochi against director-actor Ranjith based on a complaint by an actress from West Bengal concerning an alleged incident in 2009. The two FIRs have come in the wake of the Justice Hema Committee report on the treatment of women in the Malayalam film industry.
Both the cases will be transferred to the seven-member SIT constituted to probe such cases.
