Choreographer-director Remo D’Souza was among the six persons against whom an FIR was lodged on October 16 by the Mira Road police in Bombay on complaints of cheating and forgery filed by members of a dance troupe against their manager, Omprakash Chauhan. The troupe, V Unbeatable, has alleged that it was cheated of Rs. 12 crore by six persons.
The petitioners, comprising 28 dancers from Bhayandar slums in Bombay, gained recognition after winning the ‘Best Talent In The World’ award in season 2 of America’s Got Talent The Champions in 2019. Chauhan allegedly received their earnings from events, including America’s Got Talent, in his personal account for over six years. The dancers estimated the amount to be around Rs. 12 crore for a total of 250 shows. They also alleged that Remo’s production house obtained intellectual property rights and an NOC of the troupe after promising the dancers Rs. 50 lakh upon completion of a film on them. The signing amount of Rs. 5 lakh, received by Omprakash Chauhan, was not shared with the dancers, they alleged.
