The work on constructing a music academy in memory of legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar in Thane will start next month, Shiv Sena MLA Pratap Sarnaik said on 24th July. Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde has allotted Rs. 25 crore under the Development of Basic Amenities in Municipal Area Scheme to build the Lata Mangeshkar Sangeet Vidyalaya on an amenity plot in Vartak Nagar.
The project was proposed in March last year, weeks after Mangeshkar’s demise. The tendering process will begin soon after a few administrative approvals are received.
The school will offer a degree course in music and art. It will be affiliated to a proposed music university.
