Renowned qawwal Sayeed Sabri and father of the famous Sabri Brothers, Farid and Amin, passed away of a heart attack yesterday (6th June) in Jaipur. He suffered a heart attack yesterday when had gone for a bath. He was rushed to the hospital from where he never returned. He was 85. Haji Mohammed Sayeed Sabri was cremated the same evening. Just a little more than a month-and-a-half ago, on 21st April, Farid had breathed his last while undergoing treatment.
The trio were known for their super-hit qawwalis including Der na ho jaaye kahin der na ho jaaye (Henna) and Ek mulaqat zaroori hai sanam (Sirf Tum). In fact, for the song of Henna, Raj Kapoor had mentioned the names of Sabri Brothers in his diary before he passed away, and so Randhir Kapoor, who took the reins of direction of the film after his father’s demise, had the song recorded by Sabri Brothers and Lata Mangeshkar.
Performances by Sayeed Sabri and his sons at private gatherings and on stage were extremely popular. With the passing away of Sayeed and Farid Sabri, the team no longer exists as only Amin Sabri is alive now.
