Veteran actor Sameer Khakhar breathed his last early today (15th March) morning in a hospital in Bombay. He was 71 years old. He is survived by his wife. Although Sameer had acted in a number of films and TV serials, he became very popular with his character of Khopdi he played in the equally popular television serial, Nukkad.
Sameer had been suffering from respiratory and other medical problems since quite some time. He had trouble in breathing yesterday morning following which his sleep was disturbed. He went to sleep thereafter and became unconscious in his sleep. His blood pressure also dipped following which he was admitted in the ICU of M.M. Hospital at Borivli in Bombay around 3.30 p.m. He developed renal problems soon thereafter and then his organs started failing one by one. He was put on a respirator but he passed away at 4.30 a.m. this morning. He was cremated at 10.30 a.m. at the Babhai Naka crematorium.
Among the films Sameer had worked in are Parinda, Pushpak, Hasee Toh Phasee, Jai Ho etc. He had also acted in a couple of Gujarati stage plays. Among his other TV serials were Shrimaan Shrimati and Circus. He was also seen in Vikas Bahl’s web series, Sunflower.
Sameer had settled in the USA some years ago. He shifted back to India later.
