The Odeon chain of cinemas in the UK and Ireland will keep about 25% of its 120 cinemas in the UK and Ireland shut during the weekdays. It has announced plans to conduct shows during the weekends only. The reasons for operating the cinemas in the weekends only, are twofold: dearth of new film releases, and the second wave of coronavirus cases, both of which are keeping the public home.
Just recently, Cineworld announced that it might have to temporarily shut down its cinemas in the USA, UK and Ireland for the same reasons. Bond film No Time To Die, which was slated to release in November this year, now stands postponed to April next year. A couple of other big-ticket films have also been postponed.
