SECOND WAVE OF CORONAVIRUS FORCES RE-SCHEDULING OF FILM RELEASES | 23 March, 2021

What was being feared has turned into reality. At least two films have been postponed because of the second coronavirus outbreak in India. The releases of Haathi Mere Saathi and Punjabi film Puaada stand cancelled for the time being. Eros’ elephant film was slated to hit the screens this Friday (26th March) but the company today announced its postponement in view of the growing number of coronavirus cases in the country. A new date has not been announced.

Similarly, the producers of Puaada today announced that the film will not release on 2nd April “due to the rising cases of COVID-19 and new guidelines for cinemas with weekend and night closures of theatres”. All the worldwide rights of the Punjabi film vest with Zee.

The trade has been worried about the scheduled release of the biggest of them all, Sooryavanshi. To their relief, there is no move to postpone the Rohit Shetty film starring Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Ajay Devgan and Ranveer Singh. After a lot of back and forth, Reliance Entertainment recently announced April 30 as the date when the highly anticipated film would hit the screens. That date remains unchanged as of now.
