Veteran character actress Seema Deo passed away this morning (24th August) at her residence in Bombay. She was 81. She had been suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. Her funeral will take place today at 4 p.m. at the Shivaji Park crematorium.
She had acted in a number of films like Anand, Koshish and Kora Kagaz. She was also a doyen of Marathi cinema. In all, she had acted in more than 80 films. She was often seen on the screen as the wife of her real-life husband, Ramesh Deo, who passed away in 2022. Among Seema Deo’s other well-known films are Aliya Bhogasi, Jagachya Pathiwar, Ya Sukhano Ya, Suvashini and Ha Mazha Marg Eklaa.
Although singing and dancing was considered taboo for girls and women in the Saraswat Brahmin community, from which she came, Seema pursued her passion for singing and dancing and ultimately joined the film industry. She used to be a singer-dancer in Anandji’s music troupe before she became an actress.
Seema Deo, whose maiden name was Nalini Saraf, is survived by her two sons, actor Ajinkya Deo and filmmaker Abhinay Deo.
