Shaukat Azmi, mother of Shabana Azmi and cinemtographer Baba Azmi, passed away today (22nd November) in Bombay. She was 91. The end came at her home at Juhu.
Shaukat Kaifi Azmi was a well-known theatre and film artiste. Among the films Shaukat acted in were Garm Hava, Salaam Bombay and Umrao Jaan. She also wrote Kaifi And I, a memoir of her life with husband Kaifi Azmi. The book was later converted into a play. Right from her youthful days, Shaukat was a rebel.
