Amol Kagne Studios, Kiran Kumawat Productions and Sagar Pathak Productions’ Single (Marathi; UA) is the story of two college friends — Rahul (Prathamesh Parab) and Abhinay (Abhinay Berde) — who decide not to fool around with girls. However, when one of them meets his girlfriend from school, he starts romancing her, leading to a break-up between the two friends.
Satish Samudre has penned a story which is about friendship and love. However, it doesn’t have the sensitivity required for such a story. Chetan Chavada and Sagar Pathak’s screenplay has its heart in the right place but doesn’t create the right impact because there is no justification for the break-up of friendship. Satish Samudre’s dialogues are alright.
Prathamesh Parab does well as Rahul. Abhinay Berde performs ably in the role of Abhinay. Prajakta Gaikwad is good as Amruta. Rajeshwari Kharat is effective as Rani. Ramesh Pardeshi lends nice support in the role of the corporator. Suresh Vishwakarma is alright as the principal. Sushant Divekar lends adequate support as Popat. Others pass muster.
Chetan Chavada and Sagar Pathak’s direction is average. Music (Abhijeet Kawthalkar and Mohit Kulkarni) is so-so. Sanket Dhotkar’s lyrics are okay. Song picturisations (choreography by Phulawa Khamkar and Chetan Chavada) are ordinary. Anil Gole’s camerawork is fair. Sagar Pawar’s art direction is alright. Editing (by Dhanesh Kulkarni and Amol Nimbalkar) ought to have been sharper.
On the whole, Single is too ordinary to make a mark at the ticket windows.
Released on 3-11-’23 at Mukta A2 Goregaon (daily 1 show) and other cinemas of Bombay thru Filmastra Studios. Publicity & opening: poor.
