‘SISTER MIDNIGHT’ REVIEW | 30 May, 2025

Film4 and BFI, Wellington Films and Griffin Pictures’ Sister Midnight (A) is the story of an arranged marriage which goes horrendously wrong. A spineless husband watches his wife morph into a feral and ruthless force.

Karan Kandhari has written a story which is so bizarre that it would not be understood by the majority. His screenplay keeps the viewers guessing because that’s all they can do. The computer generated animals serve to irritate. There are some weird scenes too. Karan Kandhari’s dialogues are minimal.

Radhika Apte lives the role of the ferocious wife. Ashok Pathak does a fair job. Chhaya Kadam lends decent support. Smita Tambe leaves a fine mark.

Karan Kandhari’s direction is bad. Most of the viewers will simply not comprehend what he is trying to say. Paul Banks’ music is average. Cinematography (by Sverre Sordal and FNF) is fairly good. Shruti Gupte’s production designing is okay. Napoleon Stratogiannakis’ editing is loose.

On the whole, Sister Midnight is a flop show.

Released on 30-5-’25 at Inox (daily 1 show) and other cinemas of Bombay thru PVR Inox Pictures. Publicity & opening: poor. …….Also released all over. Opening was dull everywhere.
