Actor Sooraj Pancholi has opposed Rabia Khan’s petition in the Bombay high court seeking a fresh probe into her actress-daughter Jiah Khan’s death, saying that she was trying to delay the trial which was nearing its end. The trial began on January 1, 2018, and 16 witnesses had been examined. Rabia’s cross-examination is on. Stating that there had been no change in circumstances since the high court’s February 2017 order dismissing Rabia’s third petition for further probe, Sooraj urged dismissal of her latest petition relying on a May 2019 review report of a UK law firm. He said, her advocate was associated with the firm and, therefore, the report was “not independent”.
Rabia Khan claims that Jiah did not commit suicide but was murdered. She moved the high court after the CBI court in September last year rejected her plea for an SIT for further investigations.
Jiah Khan was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her house on June 3, 2013. Sooraj is being tried for abetment to Jiah’s suicide.
