SPECIAL TEAM STARTS PROBE INTO DISHA SALIAN DEATH CASE | 16 December, 2023

The special police team set up to reinvestigate the death of Disha Salian, manager of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, began its probe on December 15. The team, which visited the residence of Disha’s parents to discuss the case, will summon politicians and others who claim to have additional information about the circumstances leading to her death. The 28-year-old died at Malad West in Bombay on June 8, 2020 after allegedly jumping off her fiancé’s apartment on the 12th floor of a high-rise.

As questions were being raised over the case of the death, Shiv Sena and BJP MLAs had demanded a revised investigation. The Maharashtra home department, headed by deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, had, therefore, issued a letter to Bombay police commissioner Vivek Phansalkar on December 12, directing that a revised probe be carried out.

The special police team set up to probe the death comprises senior police inspector Chimaji Adhav, DCP Ajay Bansal and additional commissioner (North region) Rajiv Jain.

After Disha’s death, an accidental death report was lodged by the Malwani police in June 2020. Six days later, actor Sushant Singh Rajput ended his life at his Bandra (Bombay) residence. Soon thereafter, social media was agog with theories that both the deaths were murders. There was also speculation that some politicians were behind Disha Salian’s death. The Bombay police had conducted a lengthy probe then and had filed a final summary report in 2021, not finding any foul play.
