Columbia Pictures, Marvel Studios, Pascal Pictures and Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Spider-Man: No Way Home (dubbed from the Hollywood film of the same name; UA) is the 27th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the third of the Spider-Man trilogy. It is a sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) and Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019).

After Peter Parker’s identity as Spider-Man is revealed by Mysterio in Spider-Man: Far From Home, his reputation goes for a toss. He, therefore, requests Doctor Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to use his magical powers and help restore his secret identity. But that opens the multiverse, permitting super-villains from alternate realities to arrive. How Spider-Man (Tom Holland) deals with the extraordinary situation and how he is helped by an alternate Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man (Tobey Maguire) of the Spider-Man series and an alternate Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield) of the Amazing Spider-Man series are the crux of the story.

The story and screenplay have been penned by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, based on the Marvel comic book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. The drama is so engaging that it does not give the audience even a moment to think. It keeps unfolding in an extremely interesting manner and involves the viewers so completely that they enjoy every moment of it and feel for the characters. The twist in which the alternate Peter Parkers come and join forces with Peter Parker on this planet is a masterstroke and will have the audience going wild with excitement and cheering and applauding the trio at deafening pitch. The writers have brilliantly included the emotional side of the stories of each of the three Peter Parkers, which makes the thrilling drama emotional too. In fact, the emotions could make many among the audience moist-eyed. The manner in which the three Peter Parkers work together is outstanding. The emotional climax is heart-wrenching. It would not be wrong to say that if the action, stunts and visual effects thrill the viewers, the emotions give the drama gravitas. Dialogues are appealing.

Tom Holland is adorable as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Zendaya does very well as his girlfriend, MJ. Benedict Cumberbatch is first-rate as Dr. Stephen Strange. Jacob Batalon (as Ned Leeds) is superb. Marisa Tomei lends a lot of authenticity to her character (May Parker). Toby Maguire (as Peter Parker/Spider-Man) and Andrew Garfield (as Peter Parker/Spider-Man) are outstanding. Both, their tracks and performances, will draw huge rounds of applause in the cinema halls. John Favreau is lovely as Happy Hogan. Alfred Molina makes his presence amply felt as Otto Octavius. Willem Dafoe shines as Osborn/Green Goblin. Jamie Foxx is wonderful as Max Dillon/Electro. Thomas Haden Church is very effective as Sandman. J.K. Simmons (as J. Jonah Jameson), Benedict Wong (as Wong), Paula Newsome (as MIT assistant vice chancellor) and the others provide lovely support.

Jon Watts’ direction is brilliant. His narrative style has the audience sucked into the drama right from the word ‘go’. He has made a truly humane drama and it is easily better that Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home. Michael Giacchino’s music is superb. Mauro Fiore’s cinematography deserves distinction marks. Visual effects and special effects are heavenly. Action scenes and stunts are to die for. Darren Gilford’s production designing is terrific. Editing is razor-sharp. Dubbing is excellent.

On the whole, Spider-Man: No Way Home is a blockbuster, no questions asked. It has the potential to write box-office history for Hollywood films. In spite of the fear of the third variant of the Coronavirus looming large and notwithstanding the occupancy restrictions in some states like Maharashtra, it can actually smash old records and create new ones.
