SSR CASE: CBI RULES OUT MURDER; BOMBAY POLICE TO ARREST TROLLS | 6 October, 2020

The Central Bureau of Investigation has ruled out the theory that Sushant Singh Rajput was murdered. It has said that the actor committed suicide by hanging. The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) report ruling out murder was the basis of the CBI’s findings. The AIIMS medical board, constituted by the forensic medicine department of AIIMS, said that there were neither injuries on the actor’s body nor any trace of poison in his body to conclude that he was murdered.

Sushant had ended his life on 14th June in his Bandra (Bombay) flat. Soon after, there was an uproar among the public and an outcry for investigation into the death. While the Bombay police was still investigating the case, Sushant’s father filed an FIR in Patna, claiming that his son had been murdered. He named Sushant’s live-in girlfriend, Rhea Chakraborty, as the prime accused. The Supreme Court asked the CBI to investigate while admitting that the Bombay police had done a good job of the investigation. The CBI started to work in mid-August on two theories — murder and abetment to suicide. It was being mentioned then that AIIMS doctor Sudhir Gupta had claimed that Sushant had been murdered. However, the AIIMS medical report now has categorically ruled out murder and said that the actor had died by hanging himself.

It has emerged from a study conducted by the Michigan University that the ones who were demanding a probe into the actor’s death on social media, and claiming that it was a case of murder were sponsored by the ruling BJP. When the entire social media movement for a probe into the death was being played out, the ones demanding justice for Sushant were often trolling Bombay police and ridiculing it for its investigation. Now that the findings of the CBI seem to be no different from those of the Bombay police, Bombay police commissioner Param Bir Singh has said that the Bombay police would take action against such trolls and arrest them. It is believed by the Bombay police that 80,000 fake accounts were created on social media to discredit the probe by the Bombay police. Action will be initiated under the Information Technology Act against those who are found guilty.

It may be recalled that a money-laundering case had also been initiated against Sushant’s live-in girlfriend, Rhea Chakraborty, for which the Enforcement Directorate had been brought in for investigations. However, no instance of money-laundering or siphoning of funds was detected. Rhea was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for buying drugs for her boyfriend. She is still in jail.
