STUPENDOUS SUCCESS OF ‘SANAM TERI KASAM’: SALMAN, HIMESH HAD PREDICTED GREAT THINGS FOR FILM 9 YEARS AGO | 12 February, 2025

Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru’s Sanam Teri Kasam has tasted success only in its revival nine years after its premiere release, but there are at least two persons in the industry who mustn’t be surprised at all with the film’s box-office performance. They are Salman Khan and Himesh Reshammiya.

In an interview with your editor, Radhika and Vinay opened up about what the actor and the music director had told them way back in 2015 and 2016.

After their script was ready, the writer-director duo were keen to sign Himesh for composing the music. When they narrated the subject to the music director, he loved the story so much that he instantly gave his content to score the music. Not just that, he also gave, right then and there, the line Door jaaoge jo tum / Mar jaayenge hum / Sanam teri kasam of what was to later become the title song of the film. As if that weren’t enough, Himesh even suggested that the makers title the film Sanam Teri Kasam. Both, Radhika and Vinay, found the title appropriate but were sure that it may have already been booked by someone. To their good fortune, Himesh revealed that that someone happened to be he himself. The music director-singer magnanimously gave the title to the two filmmakers and declined to take any money from them for parting with “such a lovely title”.

Salman Khan learnt about the film when he saw its trailer and loved it. The director-duo showed him the trailer barely four or five days before the film’s release. On watching it, the superstar told the duo that they had a potential hit in their hands but warned them that awareness about the film was poor. Radhika and Vinay didn’t dispute the observation of the star about low awareness because they were themselves disturbed that the marketing team of the corporate presenting the film had messed up big time. Said Salman to Radhika-Vinay, “This film will need time to pick up by word mouth. If it doesn’t get that time, it will flop.” And that’s exactly what happened. The actor, nevertheless, tweeted about the film then, much to the joy of the directors. However, he chided them for not informing him about their film’s release earlier as he could’ve then invited the cast and both of them on his very popular television show, Bigg Boss.

As to why the film has become such a roaring success in its repeat-run when it had flopped in the first run, Radhika and Vinay opine, “For nine years, we have been receiving messages on our social media platforms, from strangers from all corners of the world about how much they had loved Sanam Teri Kasam after viewing it on the small screen. They had been writing to us to release our film again, and when we did release last week, they are giving it all their love. They are all these youngsters who had been sending us messages on social media, who are now going to the cinemas to watch the film as it has been revived all over India.”

For the uninitiated, here are interesting statistics of Sanam Teri Kasam: the film had netted only Rs. 9 crore in its two/three-week run in cinemas when it was first released on February 5, 2016. In its revival on 7th February, 2025, the Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane starrer has already netted more than Rs. 20 crore in the first five days only. It would not be out of place to mention here that looking to the heavy demand for tickets for Sanam Teri Kasam, several cinemas increased the number of shows allotted to the revived film right on Friday and Saturday itself, while reducing the shows of the two new releases of last week.
