Sunny Deol and the Deol family must be in celebration mode, what with his Gadar 2 turning out to be not just the biggest blockbuster of his career but also, perhaps, the biggest blockbuster of the Hindi film industry. However, the happy news sometimes comes with the sad news. And the sad news here is that Sunny Deol’s Sunny Super Sound may be up for auction!
Bank of Baroda has issued a public notice in the newspapers, announcing the auction of Sunny Villa which houses Sunny Super Sound preview and post-production theatre as also the office of the Deols. The total dues of the bank, recoverable from the Deols are Rs. 55,99,80,766.33 (almost Rs. 56 crore) plus interest and cost from December 26, 2022 less recovery to-date.
The date and time of the auction are set as September 25, 2023, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Bids have to be submitted by September 22 till 5 p.m. The reserve price of the auction is Rs. 51.43 crore.
The borrower in the advertisement is mentioned as Sunny Deol. Dharmendra and Bobby Deol are mentioned as the guarantors. Sunny Sounds Pvt. Ltd. is the corporate guarantor.
Of course, the notice mentions that a settlement is possible. It is a foregone conclusion that Sunny Deol will move heaven and earth to settle matters with the bank and retain the landmark property.
It may be mentioned here that almost 50 years ago, Dharmendra’s Pratiggya was produced from the same premises. At that time, of course, the preview theatre had not been made. Bikramjeet Singh Dehal used to live in the bungalow housed on the land where now stands Sunny Super Sound. This is the only commercial property amidst residential bungalows in the area on Gandhigram Road..
