‘SURYA’S SATURDAY’ (DUBBED) REVIEW | 30 August, 2024

DVV Entertainment’s Surya’s Saturday (dubbed from Telugu film Saripodhaa Sanivaaram; UA) is the story of good versus evil. Surya (Nani) has given his mother a promise to keep his anger in check for six days in a week, unleashing it only on Saturdays against those who wrong him. In this way, he is on a collision course with ruthless police officer Daya (S.J. Suryah). Even while Surya is out to teach Daya a lesson, he meets another police officer, Charulatha (Priyanka Mohan). Joining in the action drama between Surya and Daya is politician Koormanandam (Murali Sharma).

Vivek Athreya has written a story which is quite run-of-the-mill as it doesn’t offer much novelty. His screenplay is slow-paced before interval and although the pace does pick up in the second half, the drama loses steam towards the end. Also, the film is too lengthy and, therefore, gets a bit boring for the viewers. Some characters are not given the importance they deserve. Climax is not as impactful as it should’ve been. Dialogues are so-so.

Nani does an excellent job as Surya. S.J. Suryah is splendid in the role of police officer Daya. Priyanka Mohan performs ably as Charulatha. Murali Sharma leaves a fine mark as politician Koormanandam. Abhirami lends decent support as Chhayadevi. Aditi Balan makes her presence felt in the role of Bhadra. P. Sai Kumar provides decent support as Surya’s father, Sankaram. Ajay (as Govardhan), Supreeth (as Kaali), Ajay Ghosh (as Narayana Prabha), Subhalekha Sudhakar (as head constable Kamalakar), Harsha Vardhan (as police officer Sudhakar), Sivaji Raja, Vishnu Oi and Harsh Roshan are adequate.

Vivek Athreya’s direction is average. His narration is not very engaging. Jakes Bejoy’s music is so-so. His background score is quite effective. Murali G.’s camerawork is nice. Action and stunt scenes afford thrill. Karthika Srinivas’ editing ought to have been sharper. Dubbing is quite good.

On the whole, Surya’s Saturday doesn’t stand much of a chance at the Hindi box-office.
