The CBI, which on March 21 filed a closure report before a judicial magistrate at Bandra in Bombay into the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, said that it had found no evidence against the accused — the actor’s sisters, and a doctor on allegations of abetment to suicide. The Bombay judicial magistrate posted CBI’s closure report application for orders on April 8.
The CBI filed a similar closure report in a Patna court where Sushant’s former girlfriend, Rhea Chakraborty, was accused of abetment to his suicide. The CBI investigation was in a case of alleged abetment to suicide, cheating and criminal breach of trust under the erstwhile IPC. The CBI’s closure report runs into 23 pages, in which it sets out the probe details and how it led to no material to prosecute.
It may be recalled that the CBI took over the investigation of the Sushant Singh Rajput death case in August 2020 after the actor’s father filed an FIR in Patna against Rhea and others. In September 2020, Rhea filed an FIR against Sushant’s sisters, Priyanka Singh and Meetu Singh, and Dr. Tarun Kumar over alleged misuse of telemedicine.
The Bombay high court in February 2021 quashed the FIR against Meetu for being based on suspicions and vague allegations. The HC declined to quash the FIR against Priyanka, which the Supreme Court declined to interfere with.
Sushant Singh Rajput committed suicide on June 14, 2020 at his residence at Bandra (Bombay).
