The CPM and the Congress slammed the telecast of the controversial The Kerala Story on Doordarshan on 5th April. They termed the screening as a slight on the people of the Southern state.
Hours before the film was aired in the scheduled 8 p.m. slot, Kerala chief minster Pinarayi Vijayan demanded that Doordarshan cancel the telecast. A petition was filed in the Kerala high court to stop the screening, but the court didn’t issue an order, stating that DD should have been given more time to respond.
The CPM wrote to the Election Commission, alleging that the telecast was at the behest of the BJP and was meant to appease a certain section of people ahead of elections. Congress’ Shashi Tharoor termed the choice of film “propaganda at its cheapest and worst”.
