Super Cassettes Industries Pvt. Ltd., Karma Media & Entertainment and Polaroid Media’s The Ladykiller (A) is a romantic thriller, a love story with a difference.
A small-town playboy (Arjun Kapoor) doesn’t know what he is getting into when he falls in love with a girl (Bhumi Pednekar) whose name spells danger. The romance then can’t be anything but dangerous.
Ajay Bahl, Pawan Sony and Mayank Tewari have written an unusual story of a lady killer who is charming to the core. But their screenplay is incomplete as scenes seem to be missing. The drama has several jerks, giving the impression to the audience that some scenes have not been shot at all. As such, the drama, which holds promise in the initial reels, dips dramatically as it progresses. Dialogues are alright.
Arjun Kapoor does quite well. Bhumi Pednekar is fantastic. Ekavali Khanna makes a mark. Priyanka Bose has her moments. Sayed Mohammad Zaheer is fair. Yashpal Sharma leaves a fine impression. Deepak Tokas makes his mark. Ashok Kumar Mehta, Rakesh Chaturvedi, Denzil Smith, Narender Sunny Verma, Rishav Trivedi, Pranya Garg, Saurya Sharma, Kundan Negi, Abhijit Singh, Rajat Sukhija, Mrinmoy Deka, Sanjeev Jaiswal, Anuj Nayak, Geeta Aggarwal, Disha Sachdeva, Ankit Kumar Jha, Hassan Peerzada, Kundan Singh and Porush Nagar lend decent support.
Ajay Bahl’s direction is quite nice but he has released an incomplete product. There are no songs in the film. Ketan Sodha’s background music is fair. Anuj Dhawan’s cinematography, with additional cinematography by Sudhir K. Chaudhary, is very good. Aejaz Gulab’s action scenes are raw. Rita Ghosh’s production designing and Krishnanand Sharma’s art direction are average. Pranav Mistry’s editing has jerks, more because it is an incomplete film that seems to have been pieced together to release it.
On the whole, The Ladykiller will go largely unnoticed because it has been released (in a very limited number of cinemas in India) without any promotion, and also because it is an incomplete film.
Released on 3-11-’23 at MovieMax SM5 Kalyan (daily 1 show) and other cinemas of Bombay thru AA Films. Publicity: nil. Opening: poor. …….Also released all over. Opening was pathetic everywhere.
