‘TUMSE NA HO PAYEGA’ REVIEW | 29 September, 2023

Star Studios, RSVP, Roy Kapur Films and Earthsky Pictures’ Tumse Na Ho Payega is the story of an entrepreneur.

Gaurav Shukla (Ishwak Singh) is not happy with the job he has. He lives with his mother, Pooja (Amala Akkineni). He has two dear friends, Sharad Malhotra (Gaurav Pandey) and Hardik Waghela (Gurpreet Saini). He has a crush on school friend Devika (Mahima Makwana) but she is in a relationship with Arjun Kapoor (Karan Jotwani) who lives in the same society as Gaurav. Anyway, Gaurav loses his job one day. He seizes the opportunity to start a business of tiffin service. He seeks the help of three ladies in his housing society but hides the fact about his business from his mother because she is against the idea of doing business. Gaurav later takes friend Sharad as a partner. Their business prospers because of which he even gets VC funding. But when he goes in for a centralised kitchen to cope with the growing number of orders, his business starts to suffer. He realises that people are fond of home-cooked food but dislike restaurant-like food. However, his investor doesn’t agree with him because of which they have a fallout. More problems arise. Ultimately, Gaurav and Sharad also have a fight. What happens thereafter? Do Gaurav and Sharad patch up? Do they take up jobs or do they restart their business?

Nitesh Tiwari, Nikhil Mehrotra and Varun Agarwal have written a heartfelt story which has a bit of romance, a dash of emotions and some comedy too. But the fact remains that one can’t call the story novel. Nitesh Tiwari and Nikhil Mehrotra’s screenplay is engaging and heartwarming but again, it moves on quite a predictable path. It has its moments but it doesn’t give the audience a high which stays with them right till the end. The duo’s dialogues are nice, realistic and are sprinkled with a fair amount of four-letter words.

Ishwak Singh acts ably as Gaurav Shukla. Mahima Makwana is good as Devika. Gaurav Pandey leaves a fine mark as Sharad Malhotra. Amala Akkineni lends decent support in the role of Gaurav’s mother, Pooja. Gurpreet Saini is impactful as Hardik Waghela. Karan Jotwani is so-so as Arjun Kapoor. Parmeet Sethi gets limited scope as the investor; he is fair. Meghna Malik makes her presence felt in the role of Arjun’s mother, Anu Kapoor. Farida Dadi has her moments as Pummy aunty. Onkar Das Manikpuri is so-so as Birju chaiwala. Others do as desired.

Abhishek Sinha’s direction is quite nice. Abhishek Arora and Ananya Purkayastha’s music is alright but the absence of hit songs is sorely felt. Kausar Munir and Puneet Sharma’s lyrics are appropriate. Navagat Prakash’s cinematography is neat and nice. Production designing (by Bindiya Chhabria and Arvind Ashok Kumar) is of a good standard. Chandrashekhar Prajapati’s editing is sharp.

On the whole, Tumse Na Ho Payega is a fairly nice entertainer, meant for the OTT platform.

Released on 29-9-’23 on Disney+ Hotstar.
