Four months after model and TV actress Gehana Vasisth was arrested in an alleged pornography racket, the Dindoshi sessions court in Bombay on 19th June granted her bail. The usual bail conditions were set for her and she was asked to provide a personal bond of Rs. 25,000 with one or two sureties of like amount.
While at the Byculla jail, Gehana was infected with COVID-19 and was kept in a jail quarantine centre. She also suffered a stroke and was admitted to JJ Hospital. Earlier, her bail application had been rejected as the chargesheet had not been filed till then.
In February, the property cell of the crime branch raided a bungalow at Madh Island in Bombay and busted a live porn video filmmaking racket and rescued a woman. Five persons were arrested under various IPC sections of cheating, indulging in obscene act in public places and publicly exhibiting or circulating obscene books or literature and under the Information Technology Act. During the investigations, the police also froze a bank account which had a balance of Rs. 36.50 lakh. According to the police, the money could’ve been generated from the subscriptions of porn apps on which the accused used to upload videos. The police had seized a high-definition DVR video camera, mobile phones, laptop, spotlight, camera stand, memory card containing several video clips and dialogues/script. Gehana was arrested by the police in the course of the investigations as she would upload the videos on different apps including one based in the UK.
The gang used to lure aspiring candidates looking for a break in films, sign agreements with them and then force them to act in porn films. The crime branch had made tall claims that it would probe the role of a UK-based businessman and husband of an actress but it could not do so after key officers probing the case were transferred out of the city.
