The Uttar Pradesh government has permitted owners of cinemas which have shut down, to demolish them and instead construct multi-storey complexes in their place. Of course, this would be subject to fulfillment of certain conditions like obtaining NOCs from the state tax and entertainment tax departments.
Around 800 cinemas have already downed shutters in the state, and approximately 148 more are on the verge of closing down.
