An Uttar Pradesh police team, which arrived in Bombay to investigate three complaints against web series Tandav, on 22nd January recorded statements of producer-director Ali Abbas Zafar, producer Himanshu Mehra and writer Gaurav Solanki. Aparna Purohit, content head of Amazon Prime Video, was not available for recording her statement. The web series is in the eye of a controversy for allegedly hurting religious sentiments and portraying police in poor light. A similar complaint was also filed in Bombay. The makers did apologise later and also deleted the allegedly objectionable scenes.
Another U.P. police team was in Bombay to probe a complaint against web series Mirzapur. The investigations in that case started on January 22 after the Bombay crime branch gave the U.P. police the nod. A complaint had been registered against the show’s makers in Uttar Pradesh for outraging religious sentiments. However, when nobody could be located for questioning in Bombay, the U.P. police decided to send them notices from Lucknow by post.
