‘UNCHARTED’ (DUBBED) REVIEW | 18 February, 2022

Columbia Pictures, Arad Productions, Atlas Entertainment and PlayStation Productions’ Uncharted (dubbed from the Hollywood film of the same name; UA) is based on the action-adventure game, Naughty Dog Uncharted.

The film is about a hidden treasure of golden artefacts worth billions of dollars. Nathan Drake (Tom Holland), Victor “Sully” Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) and Chloe Frazer (Sophia Ali) join forces to lay their hands on the gold. Also hot on its trail is Santiago Moncada (Antonio Banderas), and Jo Braddock (Tati Gabrielle), a mercenary working with Moncada against Nathan and Sully. Nathan has another motive to join hands with Sully and Chloe. What’s that motive? Who finds the hidden treasure?

The story, written by Rafe Lee Judkins, Jon Hanley Rosenberg and Mark D. Walker, is interesting, more so for those who are addicted to the game. The screenplay, penned by Rafe Lee Judkins, Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, is fast-paced and keeps the audience guessing and engrossed. However, the climax is over the top and seems implausible as do some other parts of the drama.

Tom Holland is extremely endearing and effective as Nathan Drake. Mark Wahlberg does a very fine job as Sully. Antonio Banderas is good as Santiago Moncada. Sophia Ali makes her mark as Chloe. Tati Gabrielle shines as Jo Braddock. Tieran Jones (as young Nathan) and Rudy Pankow (as Sam Drake) lend superb support. Pilou Asbæk, ElrubiusOMG and Nalan North lend star value.

Ruben Fleischer’s direction is very good. Ramin Djawadi’s music is impactful. Chung-hoon Chung’s cinematography is nice. Visual effects are commendable. Editing (by Chris Lebenzon and Richard Pearson) is crisp. Dubbing is very good.

On the whole, Uncharted is an entertaining fare but its commercial prospects are dull because it is not promoted well and also because the game (on which the film is based) is not popular among the Hindi film-going audience.

Released on 18-2-’22 at Maratha Mandir (daily 2 shows) and other cinemas of Bombay thru Sony Pictures Films India Pvt. Ltd. Publicity & opening: weak. …….Also released all over. Opening was dull everywhere. The original English version has also opened simultaneously.
