Columbia Pictures, Marvel Entertainment, Arad Productions, Matt Tolmach Productions, Pascal Pictures, Hutch Parker Entertainment and Hardy Son & Baker’s Venom: The Last Dance (dubbed from the Hollywood film of the same name; UA) is the last in the Venom trilogy.
After the events of Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021), Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) and the symbiote Venom (Tom Hardy) go on the run when they are hunted by both of their worlds.
The story is based on characters of Marvel Comics. Tom Hardy and Kelly Marcel have written an interesting story but it must be added that it doesn’t offer much novelty. Kelly Marvel’s screenplay is fast-paced and, therefore, keeps the audience engaged. The portions in which Venom comes to the fore are very interesting. Again, it must be added that there is not much newness in the drama.
Tom Hardy shines as Eddie Brock and Venom. He is so natural that it’s a delight to watch him perform. Chiwetel Ejiofor makes a fine mark as Rex Strickland. Juno Temple leaves a good impression in the role of Dr. Teddy Payne/Agony. Rhys Ifans has his moments as Martin Moon. Alanna Ubach provides lovely support as Martin’s wife, Nova Moon. Peggy Lu is adequate as Mrs. Chen. Stephen Graham lends decent support as former police detective Patrick Mulligan/Toxin. Andy Serkis is impactful as Knull, the creator of the symbiotes. Clark Backo is natural as Sadie Christmas. Cristo Fernández is appealing as the bartender. Dash McCloud is endearing as Martin’s son. Others are alright.
Kelly Marcel’s direction is good. Her narration is racy. Dan Deacon’s background music is effective. Fabian Wagner does an excellent job of the cinematography. Production designing (by Sean Haworth and Chris Lowe) is of a fine standard. Mark Sanger’s editing is crisp. Dubbing is proper.
On the whole, Venom: The Last Dance is an above average fare. The dull pre-Diwali days will, no doubt, take a toll on its business.
