A 54-year-old lady, Aparna Soni, who has claimed that BJP’s Gorakhpur MP and actor Ravi Kishan is the father of her daughter, approached the Bombay high court on April 20 to quash an FIR lodged against her by Ravi’s wife, Preeti Shukla, in Lucknow at the Hazratganj police station. In the FIR, Preeti has accused Aparna of demanding Rs. 20 crore by threatening to falsely accuse Ravi Kishan of rape.
In the writ petition, Aparna along with her husband, Rajesh Soni, and daughter, Shinova, who are also named in the FIR, contended that the offence, registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including section 120B (criminal conspiracy), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), and 506 (criminal intimidation), was based on false allegations and lacked merit. Aparna has alleged that the FIR was a result of malafide intentions and an abuse of the legal process.
The family has contended that the notice issued by Aparna to Ravi Kishan, asserting the biological relationship between him and Shinova, did not amount to extortion or any criminal offence. Aparna also added that the FIR was an attempt to silence her and her family from asserting Shinova’s rights as the biological daughter of the actor. In the suit, she has urged the court to declare Shinova as the biological daughter of the actor-MP, born out of his relationship with Aparna Soni. She also requested the court to quash the FIR, arguing that it lacked substance and was an abuse of the legal process. The court is likely to hear the matters relating to paternity and the quashing of the FIR in its next session this week.
