Veteran actor Mushtaq Khan breathed his last yesterday (24th September) in Bombay. He was 75 and was suffering from cancer. He had been admitted to Nanavati Hospital where the end came. He is survived by his wife, a son (director Mohsin Khan) and a daughter.
In a career spanning 51 years, Mushtaq Khan worked in over 500 films, a number of television serials, web series and stage-plays. He was well-known for playing supporting roles in films. He could essay comedy roles with the same ease as villain roles. Among the films he worked in are Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyon Aata Hai, Raja, Gadar: Ek Poem Katha, Welcome, Om Shanti Om, Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke, Aashiqui (1990), Hera Pheri, Jodi No. 1, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Wanted, Khiladi 786, Oh My God!, Stree, Stree 2, Gadar 2, Vanvaas, Jaat, and Baby John. His comic monologue in Welcome became a highlight of the film.
Even after working so much, he continued to remain active and passionate about his craft. He had been shooting for the debut film of Shera’s (Salman Khan’s bodyguard) son before his hospitalisation a few days ago. He was diagnosed for cancer five years ago but had recovered. The cancer relapsed a few days back.
Mushtaq Khan made headline news in 2024 when he was kidnapped near Bijnore on the Delhi-Meerut highway. He had been invited as the chief guest for a function at Meerut, and was abducted by those who had invited him, during his road journey from Delhi to Meerut. He was taken to a house where he was tortured for several hours and asked to transfer Rs. 1 crore to the kidnappers’ bank account. Mushtaq Khan managed to escape from his captivity and seek help from the locals there.
Khan will be cremated at the Yari Road kabrastan, Andheri West, Bombay today. The funeral procession will start at 12 noon from his residence (Hamara Ghar, Model Town, Andheri West). His body will kept for darshan at his house from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.
