Actor and emcee Pritam Singh was mercilessly beaten up in the wee hours of 8th March by a bunch of goons at Bangur Nagar, Goregaon in Bombay when he tried to save a woman from being attacked by unidentified men. The four men assaulted Pritam with sticks and stones when he intervened and they also damaged his car. The police, who are on the lookout for the four men, have filed an FIR against four unknown men for outraging the modesty of a woman.
In her complaint, the 25-year-old woman, who was attacked by the four goons, said that she had gone to have tea from a tea stall near the Bangur Nagar traffic signal when four men started passing lewd comments. When her male friend confronted them, they started hitting him on the head with stones. At that point, Pritam Singh and his wife were passing by the junction. At his wife’s behest, Pritam intervened. He made the victim sit inside his car, after which the four men started to beat him up and also damaged his car, demanding that the lady be brought out of the car.
Pritam Singh told the police that he was shocked at the apathy of other people around, who did not try to stop the four hooligans but kept watching what was happening. The Bangur Nagar police have registered an FIR under sections 354 (outraging the modesty of a woman), 509 (insulting the modesty of a woman) and 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons) of the IPC.
