A metropolitan magistrate’s court in Bombay on August 17 granted Bengali and Hindi film actress Rupa Dutta bail in a theft case. Rupa had allegedly stolen valuables worth Rs. 1.45 lakh at Colaba in Bombay last month.
Rupa had made headlines in 2022, when she was first arrested for pickpocketing at the Kolkata Book Fair. The present case pertains to a complaint lodged by one Dimple Singhvi. In her complaint, Dimple said that her purse containing a diamond-studded gold bracelet, cash and other items was stolen on July 12 while she was moving between Babulnath Temple and Colaba in Bombay. The Colaba police stumbled upon CCTV footage which pointed out to Rupa Dutta as the thief. The police arrested her on August 6 and recovered some of the stolen property.
