ACTRESS QUITS BJP OVER INACTION | 5 March, 2020

Bengali film actress-turned-politician Subhadra Mukherjee resigned from the BJP this week in the aftermath of the recent Delhi violence.

Subhadra, who joined the party in 2013, said that it was not possible for her to be in the party with functionaries like Kapil Mishra and Anurag Thakur, both of who raised “goli maaro” (shoot them) slogans in the run-up to the Delhi assembly election. She explained that she had joined the party with hope and optimism but was disillusioned following recent developments. “No action is being taken against Thakur and Mishra,” she said, adding, “How can I be in a party that is selective in taking action?”
