Like with PM Narendra Modi, there is uncertainty about the release of Bengali film Baghini too. Baghini, produced by Pinky Paul Mondal and directed by Nehal Dutta, is a biopic of West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee.
Members of the CPM politburo met the chief election commissioner in Delhi on 15th April and sought a ban on the trailer of the film on grounds of propaganda. The trailer was out that very day and the film is slated for release on 3rd May when the state will be in the thick of elections. The BJP has also asked the Election Commission to review the biopic on similar lines as it was done in the case of PM Narendra Modi.
Baghini was made in 2016 but was cleared by the CBFC with a ‘U’ certificate only now.
