AJAZ KHAN ARRESTED | 21 April, 2020

The Khar (Bombay) police on 18th April arrested actor Ajaz Khan for allegedly making communal hate remarks in a live Facebook interaction. In the interaction on the social media platform, Ajaz said that if any untoward incident occurred, only one community was targeted by all, that too, without giving a thought to who actually was responsible. He alleged that it was a pre-planned conspiracy by the BJP to target a particular community after the incident at Bandra in Bombay last week, where thousands of migrant workers gathered outside Bandra railway station, demanding permission to return to their hometowns. Ajaz was summoned to the police station for inquiry, and subsequently arrested.

The actor was produced before the Bandra magistrate court on 19th and sent to police custody till April 24. The police dropped the charge of ‘waging war against Indian government’ applied under section 121 of the IPC, as it was found during the probe that it was not applicable. However, the other charges against him will remain. The other charges include promoting enmity against different groups, intentional insult to provoke breach of peace, and printing matter known to be defamatory.
